Dr. Inga Dóra Sigfúsdóttir, Director for Scientific Research at the Centre for Social Research and Analysis, introduced anti-drug methods in Iceland at a side-event at the 63rd Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) meeting in Vienna on 2nd February. At the side-event which dealt with the topic „The importance of drug prevention in the era of cannabis deregulation“, Dr. Sigfúsdóttir introduced the „Planet Youth“ project which emphasizes preventive measures, based on social research. Ambassador Guðni Bragason, Permanent Representative of Iceland to the UN Office in Vienna, said at the meeting that there was hardly any family that has not come in contact in some way with the drug problem and the dire consequences on the health of individuals, physical and mental, and the social effects. Therefore, innovation solutions and community approach was needed to deal with the problem, such as being introduced the Planet Youth initiative, based in Iceland but implemented in various places around the world.
