Iceland supports focus on preventing corruption and environmental issues at the 28th OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum, 10 - 11 September 2020 in Prague.

Iceland supports the focus of the Albanian OSCE Chairmanship on preventing and combating corruption, and good environmental governance aiming at achieving sustainable development and protecting the environment, said Ambassador Guðni Bragason, Permanent Representative of Iceland to the OSCE, at the 28th OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum, held 10 – 11 September 2020 in Prague.

Ambassador Bragason reported on a new legislation by the Althingi on measures against money laundering and the financing of terrorism, as well as Iceland´s cooperation with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) in Paris on money laundering issues and a high level political commitment on strengthening the effectiveness of the (AML/CFT).

The Ambassador also mentioned the damage to the ocean environment through illegal fishing. In order to counter the depletion of the fish stocks as a natural resource, an international agreement to prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated fisheries (IUU) had been created, and effective technological tool put in place through the Global Record of Fishing Vessels, making use of digital technology and the concept of transparency.
