Two new ministries commence operation
Ministry of Justice
The Minister of Justice is Sigríður Á. Andersen, and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice is Haukur Guðmundsson.
- Among the functions of the Ministry of Justice are the following: Prosecuting authorities, courts, legal procedure, legal assistance, enforcement of judgments, search and rescue, police and law enforcement, personal rights, citizenship, commissioners, and elections.
Ministry of Transport and Local Government
The Minister of Transport and Local Government is Jón Gunnarsson, and Permanent Secretary will be Ragnhildur Hjaltadóttir, who has served as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior.
- The primary functions of the Ministry of Transport and Local Government are as follows: Air, land, and sea transport; electronic communications; information society issues; local government issues; regional development issues; and matters relating to Registers Iceland.
Both ministries are located at Sölvhólsgata 7, where the Ministry of the interior has had its offices. The ministries operate a joint website.
Each of the two ministries employs nearly 50 members of staff, including several who will handle projects for both ministries.
