Seminar on Utilization of Geothermal Energy and CCUS in India conducted by the Embassy of Iceland in New Delhi in cooperation with Indo Icelandic Business Association

Now is the opportunity to increase cooperation between Iceland and India in the use of renewable energy in the light of the fact that the Indian government plans to scale up production of renewable green energy. This was the outcome of the seminar on geothermal utilisation and green energy production with carbon capture and utilization & Storage (CCUS) conducted by the Embassy of Iceland and the Indo Icelandic Business Association (IIBA) with participation from ONGC Energy Center. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd ( ONGC) is one of India's largest energy companies.

Task Force partners for state-to-state cooperation on India’s geothermal energy projects began their preparatory work this week in New Delhi. Mr. Benedikt Höskuldsson, Special Envoy for Climate for the Foreign Ministry of Iceland has been nominated as chairman of the Task Force from the Icelandic side. He took part in several meetings organised by the Embassy in New Delhi. One of the meetings was with Mr. Rajesh Kumar Srivastava, Chairman & Managing Director of ONGC, who expressed keen interest in increasing cooperation in the deployment of geothermal energy in India. The state-owned ONGC in partnership with Iceland GeoSurvey is currently setting a geothermal power plant in Ladakh in the North Western Himalayan region of India.

At the begining of the seminar, Ambassador Guðni Bragason and  Chairman of the Association, Mr. Prasoon Dewan addressed the gathering. Mr. Ravi, Director General, ONGC Energy Center also gave a presentation on the company's work in areas of renewable energy deployment in India.
