Foreign Minister discusses the Free Trade Agreement with India Businesses.
In connection with the conclusion of the EFTA - India Free Trade Agreement Foreign Minister Bjarni Benediktsson addressed a business luncheon at the invitation of the Iceland India Business Association (IIBA) and the Icelandic Embassy on 11th March 2024, and stated that for Iceland, the Agreement was the most important trade agreement Iceland has made with Asia in a decade. „It will strengthen our trade, economic and political relations with India for years to come“, the Minister said. „The TEPA with India – the world’s most populous country and largest democracy - is perhaps EFTA’s most significant trade agreement to date“.
At the luncheon the Minister had a lively exchange with serveral representatives of Indian firms engaged with Iceland. Mr Prasoon Dewan Chairman of the IIBA and Ambassador Guðni Bragason of Iceland also addressed the meeting.
