The MFA supports a geothermal project in India

The Icelandic geothermal developer GEG Power ehf. has been given a ISK 30 million grant from the MFA Business Partnership Fund for the UN Global Goals for a geothermal project in Himachal Pradesh. The GEG project will use a steam-powered cold room for the storage of apples.

The direct use of geothermal energy for cooling is a cheaper way for the farmers in the area to cool the apples than to use electricity.  The project is scheduled be completed by the end of 2023.

The GEG Power has since 2011 built 16 geothermal power plants with a total power generation capacity of 85.6 MW in Kenya and Iceland. The project is linked to four of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): the Sustainable Energy Goal (7), the goal of good employment and economic growth (8), the goal of greater equality (10) and the goal of climate action (13).
