The Birth of Modern Linguistics!
The relation between sanskrit, Icelandic and Danish and the life work of the renowned Danish philologist Rasmus Christian Rask (1787 – 1832) were the topic of lectures by Dr. Þórhallur Eyþórsson Professor at the University of Iceland given at the Hanraj College, Delhi University 24th Apríl, and the Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi 22nd April, under the title Birth of Modern Linguistics. Rask spent some years in Iceland and was one of the founders of the Icelandic literary Society. He also travelled to India and other Asian countries and studied sanskrit. The lectures were organised by the Embassy of Iceland in Inda in cooperation with the Danish Embassy. Ambassadors Freddy Svane of Denmark and Guðni Bragason of Iceland gave addresses at the event in Delhi.
