Two-years Anniversary of the invoking of the OSCE Moscow Mechanism regarding LGBTI people in the Chechen Republic.
At the Permanent Council today, Iceland joined a group of OSCE participating States in commemorating the invoking of the OSCE Moscow Mechanism for investigating reports of serious human rights abuses of LGBTI people in the Chechen Republic in the Russian Federation. The Moscow Mechanism report documented „harassment and persecution, arbitrary or unlawful arrests or detentions, torure, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial executions“ of LGBTI people. Two years later there are still reports of serious violations against LGBTI people and human rights defenders in the country.
