Nordic-African Foreign Ministers Meeting in Oslo

Icelandic Foreign Minister Valgerdur Sverrisdottir recently attended a meeting of ten African colleagues with the five Nordics in Oslo. Discussions centred on security issues and prospects for peace in war-torn corners of Africa, climate change and the United Nations.

The foreign ministers of Benin, Botswana, Ghana, Lesotho, Mail, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania were all in Oslo. These ten countries all have development ties with the Nordic countries; Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Sweden. Mrs. Sverrisdottir had bilateral meetings with a number of her African colleagues during the gathering in Oslo.

The Icelandic International Development Agency runs development programs in four African countries: Uganda, Malawi, Mozambique and Namibia, focusing mainly on the fisheries sector and social programs.
