Mr. Ambassador, dear foreign guests  
I start of by addressing you in English as my Chinese is nowhere near fully developed  J
It must be said that this year we are getting a nice addition to our Dark Music Days festival when we welcome our guests that have travelled a great distance to be with us at the festival. It is indeed a pleasant idea be able to merge together the current developments in modern music from countries as different as Iceland and China.
The Icelandic Chinese Cultural Society has in cooperation with the festival developed today's program and I thank them wholeheartedly for their contribution.
It will be interesting to see and hear how the Chinese traditional sounds of the gu-zheng instrument will merge with the modern sound-fabric that the Caput Ensemble is known for here in Iceland.
It is my view that such cultural exchange can be a fruitful way to build bridges between different countries and continents. Music is, in the end, a universal language and in today's world it can travel along paths that can be developed with the help of individuals at a grassroot level.
The concert today commemorates the 60th Anniversary of the Icelandic-Chinese Cultural Society. It has through the years played a vital part in strengthening the relations between the two countries and will hopefully continue to do so in many years to come.  
I wish you a happy and stimulating listening experience in today's concert.

Ágætu gestir
Það er ánægjulegt að hinir alíslensku Myrku musikdagar skuli einnig færa til landsins erlenda strauma þegar kemur að samtímatónlist. Fyrr í dag heyrðust hér kanadískir tónar á tónleikum og nú er komið að því að bræða saman kínverskan hljóðheim og íslenskan.
Tónlist, og reyndar listir og menning almennt, geta verið mikilvægir þættir í því að læra um heiminn. Menningarstarf byggir brýr milli landa og eykur skilning okkar á fjarlægum heimshlutum.
Það er á þessum grundvelli sem allt starf í sextíu ára sögu Kínversk-íslenska menningarfélagsins hefur byggst. Merk saga félagsins sýnir að menningarstarf þess hefur bæði svalað forvitni landsmanna um þetta merkilega land í austri og byggt undir raunverulega vitund um siði þar austur frá.
Á þessum tímamótum er rétt að óska aðstandendum félagsins til hamingju með þennan virðulega aldur, árin sextíu, og þakka fyrir vel unnin störf. Eins er ekki úr vegi að benda fólki á að fylgjast með starfi félagsins á afmælisárinu sem verður fjölbreytt og spennandi.
En í dag verður áhugavert að heyra kínverska tóna og íslenska renna saman.
