West Nordic Countries Showcased as Premier Travel Destinations at Successful Event at the Embassy of Iceland

Embassy of Iceland, in collaboration with the Official Representations of Greenland and the Faroe Islands, successfully hosted a high-profile event at the Embassy in Beijing to promote tourism to the West Nordic region. The event introduced Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands as unique and captivating travel destinations, attracting over 200 guests from the Chinese government, tourism industry, media, and business community.

In their welcoming remarks, H.E. Thorir Ibsen, Ambassador of Iceland to China, and the Representatives of Greenland and the Faroe Islands, emphasized the long-standing friendship and close cooperation among the three West Nordic nations. They underscored the increasing interest in sustainable tourism between China and the region, and highlighted promising opportunities for collaboration in travel, trade, and environmental innovation.

Guests were treated to an unforgettable culinary experience curated by Friðrik Sigurðsson, Executive Chef of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, who traveled to Beijing especially for the occasion. The tasting menu featured 16 exquisite dishes from Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands, spotlighting premium, sustainably sourced seafood and fresh ingredients provided by ICELANDIC Seafood, IS Seafood, Royal Greenland, Hiddenfjord, Bakkafrost, and Ísey Skyr.

All seafood served at the event was sourced from sustainable fisheries and aquaculture stations, reflecting the region’s strong commitment to environmental stewardship, clean natural resources.

The evening also included meaningful interactions with agents from six leading travel agencies offering curated experiences in the region: Albatros Expeditions, Nonni Travel, Hurtigruten Expeditions, Iceland Arctic Travel Group, Icelandair in China, and Polar Club 66.

Iceland has experienced a notable surge in interest from Chinese tourists in recent years. In response, the Embassy of Iceland in Beijing has doubled the capacity of its Visa Department, and is expanding its network of Visa Application Centres across China from 11 to 15.

“We are proud to welcome more and more Chinese visitors each year,” said Ambassador Ibsen. “We want them to feel at home in our countries and experience the warm hospitality, breathtaking landscapes, and rich cultural traditions that make the West Nordic region so special.”

The event offered an engaging blend of informative speeches, stunning visual presentations, and delicious regional cuisine, creating an immersive and enjoyable atmosphere for all attendees. It concluded with a warm invitation for Chinese travelers to explore the hidden gems of the West Nordic region—a place where nature, culture, and sustainability come together in perfect harmony.
