Ambassador Thorir Ibsen addresses at China-Europe Qingdao Forum on Sustainable Development and 2022 International Health and Environment Industry Development Forum. He highlighted Icelandic climate friendly technologies that are being applied into China’s effort in low carbon development. Iceland and China have had a longstanding and successful cooperation in the field of geothermal energy. Sinopec Green Energy, a Sino-Icelandic Joint Venture has reduced China 16 million tons of CO2 during its operation from 2006 to the present by using geothermal energy for house heating. Icelandic carbon capture, reuse and storage technology is also being brought to China – thus reducing the climate impact of industrial carbon emissions in China. Iceland is also committed to sharing its experience and knowledge with other countries and in this regard, China is an important partner.
China-Europe Sustainable Development Qingdao Forum is organized by Qingdao Municipal People's Government and International Health and Environment Industry Association with the theme of “Promoting Green Cooperation for a Win-Win Future”.
